TDSB's $400G hug fund
Thank you for your largesse, after all it is you who are paying for a $400,000 fund to help Toronto District School Board tustees get along. The money was sent to the TDSB by Education Minister Gerard Kennedy and has been used to set up a 'relationships committee,' to hire a consultant and to develop a code of ethics.
I guess all of those things are important in the case of a School Board that proudly broke the law to make a political point, is so divided that it is not uncommon for trustees to call each other names in public and that so baldly mismanaged Toronto's schools it had to be replaced temporarily by an all-powerful supervisor. But $400,000?
Let's put it in perspective, $400,000 is:
- More than 3500 grade 12 physics texts from McGraw-Hill.
- More than 700 brand new Dell OptiPlex 170L computers.
- More than 100,000 healthy school lunches.
But if you think this is just more money misspent by the TDSB, you are wrong. Says Board Chair Sheila Ward:
"Anybody who says that's a bad use of funds, fine. I don't have much time for that kind of stupidity because it's so shortsighted."
Well, I guess I'm stupid, then.
