All eyes on Kerry
With the electoral math working out that any winner must take the State of Ohio and Bush in the lead there with only provisional ballots yet to be counted, all eyes are John Kerry.
The outcome of the election is no longer in doubt - George Bush has won Ohio. The Kerry campaign's assertion last night that they would be get enough provisional ballots to make up Mr. Kerry's 130,000 vote deficit is implausible. Even if there are 250,000 provisional ballots as the Kerry campaign contends (and that is a very high estimate), Mr. Kerry would have to take the provisional vote by a margin of three to one. Not Likely.
So Mr. Kerry has a choice. 1) He can drag this thing out for days by send his team of lawyers in to ensure "every vote is counted." 2)He can let the process of counting of provisional ballots play out but keep his lawyers on a short leash. Or, 3) he could concede.
The Kerry campaign says it might give us a sense of its plans after 10:00 this morning. Look for them to pick option 2.
