Key Martin advisor helped McGuinty break his promises
Well if the Tories were looking for something to tie Paul Martin to Dalton McGuinty's broken Election promises, they have it now.
An article in today's Toronto Star quotes another anonymous senior Liberal source saying the McGuinty Liberals "knew that the budget had to contain tough measures. They also knew they'd receive complaints about those measures from their federal cousins. So they made the smart strategic move of hiring Martin's campaign co-chair to work for them."
According to the Star, the hiring David Herle was designed to prevent the federal Liberals from campaigning against the McGuinty tax hikes. However, it also links one of Mr. Martin's most trusted advisors to the decision of a Liberal government not to keep its election promises.
This is great news for the Harper Conservatives who have been looking for a way to tie the broken Liberal promises in Ontario to Paul Martin. The Tories can now argue that since one of Mr. Martin's closest advisors signed-off on the Ontario Liberals' budget and their promise-breaking, clearly the Martin Liberals won't be too concerned about breaking their promises.
