Blakes seeks to profit from Martin tesitmony

Bay Street law firm Blake, Cassels & Graydon thinks AdScam is an opportunity to make money in the United States.

Today, Blakes sent an email to clients south of the border bragging Neil Finkelstein, co-counsel to the Public Inquiry into the Sponsorship Scandal, "became the first counsel since the late 1800s to examine a sitting Prime Minister under oath in a public inquiry." The email includes "excerpts from two of Canada's leading newspapers that we thought you might find of interest."

The email continues with this paragraph:

With more than 500 lawyers in offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, New York, Chicago, London and Beijing, Blakes is one of Canada's leading business law firms. When U.S. and other companies are considering establishing a Canadian business or making an acquisition or disposition, Blakes can assist in structuring all aspects of the transaction and provide advice on any legal matter, including the application of tax, securities, foreign investment review and competition legislation.

Good for you, Blakes, you can help American companies trying to do business in Canada. But what does that have to do with AdScam? Doesn't the fact that the Government of Canada is mired in a scandal over the spending of taxpayers' money actually undermine the confidence of those seeking to invest in Canada? Doesn't the fact that the Prime Minister had to testify at the inquiry further undermine their confidence in our economy and our leadership?

Blakes' PR machine clearly needs some oiling.
