Parrish the thought
He finally did it. Prime Minister Paul Martin finally found it in himself to do the right thing and kicked Carolyn Parrish out of his Liberal Caucus. Ms. Parrish has become famous for her anti-American remarks.
She has called Americans "idiots" and "bastards" and more recently has said they are "out of step" with the rest of the world. She also recently filmed a segment for CBC's This Hour has 22 Minutes comedy show in which she stomps on the head of a George Bush doll.
Each time, her antics have found there way to the mainstream media in the United States and have undoubtedly hurt Canada's already poor relationship with the United States. Each time, Paul Martin has given her a public wrist-slap and sent her on her way to repeat her performance.
Well apparently she finally crossed the line yesterday. So what anti-American slur finally prompted the Prime Minister to action? None. He sent her packing because she said this to the Canadian Press:
“And if he wants to know why he can't control me, I have absolutely no loyalty to this team — none. After what they've put me through and lots of my colleagues, they can all go to hell. But he's not going to control me, so all he's going to do is end up looking weak.”
The message from Mr. Martin is clear: If you slam the United States or its President he will criticize you in public with a wink and a nudge and let you carry on as you wish, but if you dare take a shot at him, you will be kicked to the curb like a garbage bag.
