Do we really need this person?

Canada's Foreign Affairs Department is looking to hire a "Canadian Wine Coordinator." This lucky guy or gal is is going to be making between $61,312 and $66,287, but the job posting (I have captured it here in case they pull it off the website) doesn't detail its responsibilities.

Judging by the requirements under the "Experience" heading, one of this person's key roles will be to promote wine to senior public servants. I don't believe this is the least bit necessary and I offer this as evidence:

The Personal Assistant to the new Foreign Affairs Minister, Pierre Pettigrew (to whom this Wine Coordinator will report) spent $308.25 on booze in February to entertain 45 Government of Canada officials (that's in addition to the $491.90 Mr. Pettigrew's Chief of Staff spent on food for the same reception - though he thinks there were only 40 people there).

Clearly Mr. Pettigrew doesn't need anyone to advise him on wine.
