The Bagdad Bombshell
In a surprise move, the American-led coalition turned over power to Iraq's interim government this morning, two days ahead of schedule. The bombshell announcement was designed to foil the terrorists and insurgents, who have been killing hundreds with car bombs, rocket propelled grenades and gunfire in the lead-up to the turnover of power, and were planning even more massive attacks in on the day of the turnover.
The move likely won't stop more attacks, but does ensure that the turnover itself was not marred by the violence many feared it would.
