Every penny will go to health care?
This from the crack research team with the Ontario NDP:
- In his radio ads, Dalton McGuinty says that "every penny" of his government's new health tax will go to health care. As it turns out $113-million of it will go to sewer and water construction. Mr. McGuinty says this is because his government understands that there are "broader determinants" of health. I guess eye exams, physiotherapy and chiropractic are not among the "broader determinants" Mr. McGuinty cites, otherwise they would not have been cut in favour of sewer upgrades.
- Also being bought with your health tax dollars are a series of television ads from the Ministry of Tourism encouraging people to get active. What's strange is that we already have ads like that, the previous government didn't need a health tax and cuts to insured health services to pay for them.
- In his radio ads, Mr. McGuinty claims that the new health tax will be used to pay for "meningitis vaccinations for children." Well, his Health Minister has been forced to confirm that the vaccines are, in fact, being paid for by the federal government, not the province.
Sewer construction and TV ads, your health tax dollars at work.
