Tech on the Trail | Home | Unilever makes a mockery of election

Did you hear that? It's the sound of writ dropping
Paul Martin has fired the starting gun and the four party leaders are now (officially) campaigning for the votes of Canadians.
Paul Martin took direct aim at the Conservatives and their leader, Stephen Harper, accusing him of wanting to turn Canada into the United States. Stephen Harper attacked the Martin Liberals for being corrupt and unaccountable. Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe, focussed on social issues and how a strong Bloc is needed to protect Quebec from Ottawa. NDP leader Jack Layton repeated the socialist refrain: Liberal or Tory, same old story.
For the most part, these were unispiring, unimaginitive campaign launches that don't bode well for parties hoping to get voters' attention. Their launches are particularly disappointing since we have known for more than a week that the election would be called today. While Mssrs. Martin, Harper and Duceppe opted to stand/sit behind a podium/table and read their speeches, Mr. Layton stood outside Parliament surrounded by supporters and candidates, displaying more passion than the other three combined. [Okay, it may have been fake, but fake passion beats poke-your-eye-out-with-a-catnip-mouse boring any day!]
Give the best campaign lauch award to the NDP.
